Outlook Express Setup

These are the instructions you need to set up Microsoft Outlook Express for sending, receiving, and reading your ImpulseNet e-mail.

  • Open Outlook Express. You will find it on the Desktop, in the Programs folder, or on the Toolbar, as an icon appearing similar to this:

  • Click on "Inbox," found near the top left hand corner of the window as shown below.

One of these actions may take place.

  • If the Internet Connection Wizard appears, stating that it "detected previously installed e-mail software," then select "Create a new Internet mail account" and click on Next. Proceed to the next step, "Your Name."
  • If the Internet Connection Wizard did NOT appear, then go to the menu bar at the top of the window, and select "Tools" then "Accounts..." A new window entitled "Internet Accounts" will appear. Click on the "Add..." button on the right side, then select "Mail..." and proceed with the rest of the setup instructions below for "Your Name."
  • Your Name. Simply enter your name in as you would like others to see it, as the example indicates. Click on the "Next" button.
  • Internet E-mail Address. Your e-mail address is the <username> you chose when you signed up for service with ImpulseNET, followed by "@impulsenet.net" as the examples below suggest. Enter the entire e-mail address in all lowercase characters! Click Next when finished.
Here are some e-mail address examples: bodabing@impulsenet.net
bodaboom@impulsenet.net
  • E-mail Server Names. The incoming mail server is a POP3 server, so select "POP3" in the drop down menu. Enter "pop3.delconet.com" (no quotes) for the POP3 server name and "smtp.delconet.com" for the SMTP server name, exactly as indicated below, then click Next.

  • Internet Mail Logon. Make sure that "Log on using:" is selected, then enter in your username and password that you chose when you signed up for service with The ImpulseNet Dialup. (The username may already be entered in for you.) IMPORTANT NOTE: Please make sure that you enter the information in all lowercase letters, otherwise errors may occur when you try to check your e-mail! Proceed by clicking Next.
  • Friendly Name. The default name is "pop3.delconet.com" as you previously entered it. You may leave it "pop3.delconet.com" or you may call it "ImpulseNet e-mail" if you choose. Click on Next.
  • Choose Connection Type. You'll want to connect to The ImpulseNet by using your modem and phone line, so select "Connect using my phone line" and click Next.
  • Dial-Up Connection. You should have an existing Dial-Up Networking connection for ImpulseNet, so choose "Use an existing dial-up connection" and select "ImpulseNet" as your connection. (If you do not have any existing connections listed there, you will need to refer to the instructions on how to set up a Dial-Up Networking connection to ImpulseNet.net.) Click Next.
  • Congratulations! You have successfully set up Outlook Express for ImpulseNET e-mail. Click on Finish and give yourself a hug {{{ me }}}
